Monday – 12 March 2012 – At Sea – South Pacific Ocean
On this beautiful – very warm morning, I am on the walking
track at the top of the ship by 6:05 am for 30 minutes. At a leisurely breakfast with the group --
Patte and I decide to attend the Beginning Bridge Lesson. It is so enjoyable – we make a commitment to
continue -- lessons are every sea day at 10:00 am. Jean Paul, our instructor is a Canadian and
has been playing since he was a child.
His wife instructs the intermediate group – maybe by next cruise we will
be there.
Lunch at Waves (the grill on the deck) – they have the best
grilled anything – hot dogs, hamburgers, reubens, caprese sandwiches, etc. A leisurely afternoon is spent writing the
blog and reading until Trivia at 4:45 pm.
This is not The Cape Codders r best trivia performance – no points
earned this time. A group decision is
made to drown our sorrows at Happy Hour right next door in Martini’s Bar. Our waiter, Vincent, is a delight – from South
Africa – it’s hard to believe he has a ten year old daughter.
From Happy Hour we go immediately upstairs to the back deck
of the Terrace Café for dinner -- with a view of the sun setting over the South
Pacific Ocean. It doesn’t get much
better than this.
After dinner – since it is early and we could all easily go
right to bed – we make another group decision to attend “Brain Teasers” at 8:45
pm. We are hoping that our collective
knowledge will bring us some Big “O” points --- we
are successful.
It ‘s off to bed with
our egos in tact looking forward to
visiting the Kingdom of Tonga. .
As a point of explanation:
Big “O” points are earned during the cruise for excelling in various
activities – Trivia – Shuffleboard – Bridge (playing not learning) – golf
putting, etc. -- you get the idea. At the end of the cruise the points are spent
in the gift shop for a variety of mundane items
--- key chains, visors, bookmarks and maybe a t-shirt. The challenge of collecting the points is
the fun part.
These days at sea are tiring – it’s amazing how doing
nothing can become addictive and exhausting.
Thanks for Reading.
