Crusing the South Pacific
Our Route for Regatta Cruise

3/5/12

Sunday, March 4, 2012 - Orlando, FL

Sunday – March 4, 2012

Today is a traveling day --- however we have one errand to complete before going to the airport.   After a mediocre breakfast at Denny’s – we head to the only FEDEX office open at 9:00 am on Sunday morning in Orlando—to overnight Dan (Phil’s friend) his credit card.  It was just discovered that Phil and Dan inadvertently switched credit cards last week when we were out to dinner.  Dan has given Phil’s card to Dave to bring with him to Auckland.  Sometimes life does get complicated.

We’re at the airport by 10:30 am – security is efficient – the flight to LA is on time. Before you know it  -- it’s 3:35pm and we are landing in Los Angeles.    Our friends, Betty and George pick us up at the airport.

George suggests a newish area of Venice Beach and has made dinner reservations at  “Joe’s Restaurant”.   This area is in the process of making a comeback.   A lot of the old bungalows have been restored either as private homes, shops or galleries.   The vibes are good here – lots of beach activity.

Primitiv is one of the few restaurants we find open before 6:00 pm so we give it a try. It is just right – we find happy hour appetizers and a $16 bottle of red wine.    After a walk around the area we are just in time for our 6:00 pm reservations at Joe’s which was one of the first places to open when this area started becoming trendy.   Our meals are terrific – we eat on a lovely outdoor but covered patio – and have a most pleasurable visit with George and Betty.

Genrge gets us back to the airport in plenty of time for our 11:30 pm flight to Auckland, New Zealand.   Beth and Lynn arrive and we all board Qantas Flight 26 which leaves LAX pretty much on time.

Our adventure has begun!
